Nigel is a minor character and a special character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.
History
Background
Nigel is an Englishman who was born in Maidenhead, Berkshire. He had a desire to leave his native country in search of a new life so, along with his friend Gavin, he eventually chose America, the alleged land of opportunity, as their destination. The two of them crossed the Atlantic and reached America prior to 1899.
However, in unknown circumstances, Nigel reportedly woke up one day to discover that Gavin had disappeared overnight. Since then, Nigel began looking obsessively for his companion.
Events of Red Dead Redemption 2
Nigel can be encountered throughout the game as he spends most of his days wandering the plains, desperately searching for his long-lost friend whom he may never find. Nigel can be encountered a total of six times: four times in 1899 and twice in 1907.
By 1907, Nigel continues to look for Gavin, though his appearance and sanity have deteriorated, giggling in some instances when asking strangers if anyone has seen Gavin. He also appears to have forgotten what Gavin looks like.

Personality
Nigel is shown to be a deluded and almost crazed man, desperate to find his beloved friend Gavin. Nigel is always nervous, regularly walking through the streets of certain towns desperately looking for his friend, but to no avail. By 1907, he has been looking for his friend for around 8 years, still as deluded as before, but worse. In 1907 he is shown to be even more crazed by the disappearance of his friend, even humiliating himself for looking for Gavin as long as he has.
Appearance
In 1899, Nigel wears a bright yellow vest with magenta patterns, along with a blue tie. Underneath is a white shirt, and he wears dark brown pants, alongside a Straw Boater hat. He contains a Handlebar Mustache that is dirty blonde, along with his hair.
In 1907 however, he wears the exact same clothing as before, but the clothing is dirtier with more natural materials, specifically dirt and dust. He has a tired expression, most likely from his journey to desperately find his friend, and his facial hair has grown significantly with it being a bit darker than before.

- He can be met in Rhodes, Saint Denis, near Beaver Hollow, Blackwater, MacFarlane's Ranch and in Tall Trees.
- Although Arthur may choose to kill him, Nigel can still be seen in the Epilogue regardless.
- Nigel's situation is somewhat similar to that of Sam Odessa. Both characters are desperately trying to find something (a person, Gavin, and a place, California respectably), but are never successful, and end up going mentally insane and disheveled over time.
- Nigel tells the player that his friend Gavin is a "cockney" Londoner, but this is reportedly incorrect as Tom states they came from Berkshire and would lie about being from London. Furthermore, Nigel is shown lying in his letter to Tom about the pair becoming millionaire cowboys in America, while Gavin reportedly wrote about nothing of the sort in a letter he sent.
- This would possibly suggest that the pair actually had a falling out over Nigel's behavior, which is further supported by the existence of a cut restraining order from Gavin mentioned in the game files.
