The Rat is a species of animal found in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Description

Rats are small, non-threatening rodents that live in the wilderness and towns. They are omnivores, eating scavenged food, grains, seeds, and small animals. Due to harboring disease, ravaging through food supplies, and destroying property, they are considered pests.

Location

Rats are most numerous in the eastern parts of the map, with scattered pockets elsewhere, and a greater concentration between Owanjila and Strawberry in Big Valley. They are very rare in the Grizzlies and almost non-existent in New Austin, with the exception of Armadillo.

Mangy rats can be found under the waterfall north of Elysian Pool. Rats are also very common in the slums of Saint Denis, with Doyle's Tavern notably being infested with rats. Another reliable spawn point for rats is Copperhead Landing, located in between Saint Denis and Van Horn Trading Post.

Tips

A Perfect Rat is needed for the second request from the Wildlife Art Exhibition.
Ten Perfect Rats are needed to make the Rat Flat Cap at the Trapper.
Use a Bow with Small Game Arrows for a clean kill.

Trivia

There are two random encounters in Doyle's Tavern in Saint Denis where Doyle will ask the player to clear his bar of rats. If done correctly, this will give the player the required amount of rat pelts the trapper needs for all items.
During "American Venom", a rat can be seen exiting Micah's cabin when John is approaching.
If the player kills rats in towns, they will get a positive honor for it.
