Copper is a minor, deceased character mentioned in Red Dead Redemption 2.

History

Background

Copper was a dog found by Arthur Morgan and brought into the gang at some point prior to 1898. As time passed on, Arthur grew particularly close to Copper, occasionally taking baths with him. Although Arthur had difficulty controlling him, he admired the dog's spirit, noting that he "never lost the puppy in him."

In 1898, while the gang stayed in Montana, Hosea Matthews had caught several large salmon during a successful fishing trip and began planning a feast for the whole camp. However, the feast was cut short when Copper found and ate all of the fish. He passed away shortly after.

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2

Copper is mentioned several times throughout the story of Red Dead Redemption 2. After the gang begins camping at Horseshoe Overlook in the Heartlands, a photograph of Copper can be found attached to Arthur's wagon. Later on, in "The New South," if the player accepts to go fishing with Dutch and Hosea, they will reminisce on the past and talk about Copper while fishing. When the gang moves into Shady Belle, Copper's photo will be moved to a shelf in Arthur's room.
